Do You Know What Ingredients Are In Your Skin Care Products?

We all use makeup and skin care products everyday, but have you ever really took the time to wonder just what those products are made from? What are the active ingredients in these products that make the work, and do we really want to know? You probably have tried to read the label to see if you could figure out what those ingredients are, but can’t make heads or tails of the ingredients listed there, unless you have a science degree, or plan to take the time to look up each individual ingredient online to find more information, and who has that much time on their hands in today’s frantic-paced world? To be certain that you really are getting a quality product, you should take a few moments and learn a little about the most common ingredients that make up these products, so that you can make the best choices the next time you need to replenish your supply of beauty products.

Just about every over the counter beauty or skin care product contains AHA, or scientifically, alpha-hydroxy acids. AHA is made from a combination of glycolic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, and tartatic acid, and is a highly sought after ingredient, particularly in anti-aging products, as it has been proven effective at preventing and eliminating the signs of aging, such as wrinkles, age spots, and irregularities in skin tone and color.

BHA, otherwise known as beta-hydroxy acid, is used in many of today’s popular skin care products, and has been proven effective at healing damage to the skin that has been caused by unprotected sun exposure. It is also found in many acne products as well, and can make in big difference in the prevention of new acne breakouts.

HA, or hydroquinon is commonly used to help even out uneven skin coloring, caused by some hormone replacement treatments, or other skin conditions. If over the counter HA doesn’t help, you can talk to your doctor about getting a stronger version in a prescription form.

One ingredient that is commonly found in anti-aging products is RA, or retinol agent, which can help erase the signs of aging in the form of dry skin, tiny lines that often develop around the eyes, nose, and mouth, and even out skin coloring. RA works by promoting the production of elastin and collagen, both very essential to healthy skin.

One recently touted miracle cure for aging is a chemical known as HA, or hyaluronic acid, which has been shown to greatly heal and prevent the signs of aging, by promoting the growth of healthy tissues and skin. If you purchase and use anti-aging products, chances are they will contain HA in some form.

You will likely find many other ingredients listed on the labels of your favorite products, but these are the most commonly used, and at least now you kind of have a better idea of what purpose these ingredients serve.
